14 Months - Mommy's Helper!

Lydia is 14 months, and she loves to "help" Mommy around the house!

Helping unload the dishwasher...your favorite!
Not too many new things to report this month!  I haven't weighed her recently, but I know she's getting taller!  We are finally starting to put away most of her 12 month clothes.  Lydia has been in 18 month sleepers forever since she's so long in the torso!

Don't worry: this is the 1st time she's every done this!
As you can see, this girl has no fear (except for Mommy leaving her with Daddy!).  You can frequently find Lydia chasing the vacuum cleaner or dancing to any loud tools Daddy might be using.  (But then again, she dances to the shower and space heater, too!)

Lydia likes to wash windows & dust when Mommy does!
Our biggest accomplishment this month was being done with ALL her bottles!  Lydia had her last bedtime bottle on February 14, and there's no going back!  While Mommy was SO ready to be done washing bottles and buying formula, she might have cried a tad after giving Lydia the last one--she seemed less like a "baby" somehow!
Lydia is finally getting her fourth bottom tooth in, too!  Up to six!

We like to take wash out of the dryer (& put it in!).
Lydia had a bit of a turnaround in the sleeping department, too, this month.  She started to take 1-2 hour naps in the afternoon when we're at home.  Just when Mommy started getting used to that, the little stinker decided she only had to sleep for 25 minutes this afternoon...and there was NO convincing her otherwise!  At nighttime, Lydia is finally getting better at settling herself into sleep after our nightly routine.

Lydia's dislikes this month: being told no (we're working on not biting Mommy's clothes after this happens; she also frequently will give you kisses after she know she's in trouble!  Oh my!), Mommy leaving the house, and vegetables besides green beans.

Folding towels!
Lydia's likes: turning in lots of circles, chasing Daddy, music (you started "singing!"), going to both of her grandparent's houses, the "Itsy Bitsy Spider" (she can do the spider and rain actions!), watching for animals (she loves to yell out the window at any birds, squirrels, or rabbits she sees), insisting on all the window shades being up, reading books, going to visit our friends at the furniture store, drinking juice, looking at pictures, and climbing stairs.  Apparently this one likes fish sticks, too, even though her Mommy hates fish!
Lydia can now make the noises for puppy and monkey.  I guess she realized not everything says "moo!"  The monkey action can sometimes be mistaken for her pointing to herself, so we just take it in context!  She's saying more and more words all the time, can make her "ducky face" on command, has multiple facial expressions, and is just an all-around hoot most days!
We love you, Peanut!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day!
Lydia sent out a few Valentines to her grandparents :)

Dan came home with some beautiful flowers for me!  It even had daisies in it -- my favorite!  He even brought home a new stuffed puppy for his favorite baby girl!

I attempted to make a Valentine's treat, and it ended up being one of those "Pinterest fails."  On most of the cookies, the heart chocolate looks like a large blob!  They may look dastardly, but they taste delicious!

Peanut Blossoms
1 3/4 c. flour                                     1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. soda                                         1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. salt                                        1 beaten egg
1/2 c. shortening (I used butter!)      1 or 2 Tbsp. milk (I used 1)
1/2 c. peanut butter                           1 tsp. vanilla
Approximately 36 Reese's hearts

Sift flour, soda & salt together.  Cream shortening & peanut butter, gradually adding white & brown sugars.  Cream well.  Add egg, milk & vanilla.  Blend in dry ingredients.  Mix well.  (I ended up adding a tad more flour here so they would shape better!)  Shape in small balls, roll in sugar, and bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 8 minutes at 375 degrees.  Remove from oven.  Place a Reese's heart on top of each cookie, pressing down so cookie cracks around edge.  Do NOT return to the oven! (I learned the hard way!)

*If you place a chocolate star or kiss on the cookies instead, return them to the oven for 2-5 minutes longer.

February Pictures

Here's a few random pictures from our month so far!

Lydia LOVES to play in the tent she got from Uncle David and Aunt Laura and kids!

You have to get comfy while reading!

SNOW Much Fun!

Lydia had her first experience playing in the snow last week Saturday, February 7.  It was 40 degrees out, and just a bit of snow was left, so we took advantage of it!

She had a bit of a difficult time maneuvering while in her "marshmallow" state (so many clothes!).  Plus, the snow was extra wet and hard to walk though.  Daddy was a great help!

Good thing it was so nice outside, because Lydia does NOT love to keep her mittens on!  She touched the snow a few times, and Daddy even built a mini snowman for her!
